My father told me a story few years back... 💬
Once upon a time there was a giant cargo ship whose engine stopped working. 🚢
The owners brought in multiple repair experts, one after the other. One checked the wiring. Another blamed the pressure. Someone else took half the machine apart. Nothing seemed to work.
Days passed by. The ship remained stuck. ⚓️
Finally, they called an old ship repair engineer who had spent most of his life repairing ships. He arrived quietly, carrying a worn bag of tools, and walked straight to the engine room.
He didn’t rush. He looked at the engine slowly, top to bottom. He listened. Waited. Ran his hand across the metal as if he was reading something the others had missed.
The owners and the crew watched from a distance, anxious and skeptical.
After a bit of silence, the old repair engineer reached into his bag, pulled out a small hammer, and gave a specific part of the engine two light taps: 'tock..tock' 🔨
For a moment, nothing happened.
But then, the machine trembled 'Grrrr... Grrrrr' A low rumble filled the room.
And within seconds, the engine roared back to life...!
Everybody watching was left stunned but delighted to hear the sound of their ship back to life!
A few days passed by, and the owners received the repair bill from the old engineer:
₹10,00,000.
They were furious and in disbelief. They wondered how he could charge so much..! He barely did anything..!
So they requested him to send an itemized invoice.
And the old man responded with it, which just had two items:
Two taps with a hammer: ₹200
Knowing where to tap: ₹9,99,800

Personally, This story has always stayed with me and it's more relevant today than ever before.
With AI, we are entering a world where knowledge is easier to access, answers are easier to generate, and execution is getting cheaper.
But knowing what matters, what to ignore, what to trust, and where to focus makes all the difference. That is judgement.
And I feel that's where the premium is shifting.
The people who stand out in any domain may not be the ones who produce the most.
They may simply be the ones who know where to tap 🔨
